Graduate Program: Master of Arts in Middle Grades Education
The Master of Arts in Middle Grades Education is a standards driven, performance-based program. Program standards incorporate standards from North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as well as the National Middle School Association/National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education Middle Level Teacher Preparation Standards. All program standards include indicators of the specialized knowledge, dispositions, and performances that must be demonstrated to complete the program successfully and to be recommended for graduate "M" level middle grades licensure in the subject area selected for the degree. All degree candidates must successfully present graduation portfolios (Products of Learning).
In addition to the on-campus graduate program, off campus programs are offered at several locations. Examples of these locations are Hickory, Morganton, and Lenoir, North Carolina. Information about these off-campus programs can be obtained by contacting the graduate Middle Grades Education Coordinator, Dr. Ken McEwin. Information about off-campus programs is also provided on the ASU Distance Learning web site. Information about all program requirements can be found in the Graduate Bulletin and on the attachment provided on this web site.
